ABOUT
Initially created in 2010, the ambition of the renovated "Excellence Network of Universities on Island Territories" or RETI is to encourage and organize meetings between island academics, develop joint projects, and widely promote their work and reflections.
RETI aims to position itself as a reference in terms of knowledge sharing, technology, infrastructure, and innovation capacity for island territories. Beyond an island consciousness, the ambition and strength of RETI is to converge autonomous energies towards the creation of a collective asset, initiated by multilateral cooperation to achieve shared objectives in scientific and educational fields beneficial to all partners.
The goal is to develop shared training or research actions around insularity, using the issue of nissology ("island studies") as a central element of reflection. RETI aims to strategically position itself on international research and training programs with a shared vision that will increase our responsibilities in research, training, innovation, and transfer.
RETI aims to promote the association of laboratories, by discipline and interdisciplinarity, in fields of scientific excellence, to strengthen convergences. Collaborations can be expressed through the development of joint scientific projects. RETI also wishes to facilitate the mobility of its members through the organization of colloquiums, conferences, and the creation of joint training actions. These mobilities can be for teachers, administrative staff, students whether they are PhD (D) or Master (M) or Bachelor (L) level.
The axes of collaboration, both institutional, scientific, or educational, are grouped around working groups on identified and shared interdisciplinary themes around insularity (Examples: "Island Status and Political Issues," "Island Tourism and Heritage," "Languages and Island Culture," "Island Resiliences"). Each member can position themselves in one or more working groups where they can bring their expertise and knowledge. The working groups are autonomous and can work on an online collaborative tool in which they register. The coordinators will be regularly invited to review projects within the board meetings.
